Laureates of the Fukuoka Prize 2025 have been announced！！

We are proud to announce the laureates of the Fukuoka Prize 2025.
The Award Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, September 16th (JST).
Also, series of Public Lectures will be held on Monday (National holiday), September 15th and Wednesday, September 17th. These events are free and require advance booking.
Information on how to apply for these events as well as on other events will be available in July.

<2> About each Prize Laureates
=================================================
● Grand Prize TAKARA Kurayoshi (History)
A creator in the field of history who has broken grounds in Ryūkyū Islands studies on multiple fronts.
・The historian has made particularly outstanding contributions in restoring the main Seiden Hall of the Shuri Castle on two occasions, in which he has served as a chair of the Technical Review Committee for the Reconstruction of Shuri-jô Castle, Since 2019.
・Takara has been actively involved in various projects including planning the Peaceful Love Rock Festival which takes the history of Ryūkyū and Okinawa into account and being commissioned to provide historical advice on period dramas for Japan's national NHK broadcaster. Currently he serves as professor Emeritus, University of the Ryukyus.
・Takara combines in-depth analysis of sources, an objective outlook on history from a global perspective, dedication to field research, and the ability to plan projects beyond the field of history. By integrating all these abilities, he has expanded the field of Ryūkyū history from an academic discipline to a practical application.

● Academic Prize BAIK Young-seo (History)
A scholar of contemporary history who considers East Asia from the perspectives of citizens and people.
・Baik is one of South Korea’s leading scholar of contemporary Chinese history. In addition to his academic achievements in historical research, he plays a leading role in the Humanities and Social Sciences. He serves as Professor Emeritus at Yonsei University.
・He is also a thinker developing an “East Asian discourse” that transcends borders from the perspectives of the people and citizens. His major works have been widely translated and have won the sympathy of intellectuals and others.
・As an East Asian, Baik’s ideological work provides essential guidelines for tackling complex issues of the modern world.

● Arts and Culture Prize VO Trong Nghia (Architecture)
An architect who advocates for environmentally and ecologically friendly architecture.
・The architect advocates for environmentally and ecologically friendly architecture as he explores the role of architecture in addressing urban challenges facing Vietnam, which has been going through rapid growth.
・Vo studied architecture in Japan, and he is widely known in the Southeast Asian architectural community for his series of designs that consider the regional environment and vegetation and structural designs utilizing bamboo and wood as building materials.
